Burnaby Village Museum is an open-air museum in Burnaby. It is a reconstructed 1920s village, containing 31 full scale buildings, with costumed staff demonstrating traditional trades. Some of the buildings are original heritage buildings, moved from other locations in the community and restored; while others are replica buildings, created to house specific displays and artifacts.
Spreading across 10-acres, the museum invites visitors to join a community of learners sharing history through collaboration, participation, and discovery. Visitors can:
- Explore historical exhibits and live demonstrations including seeing and smelling coffee beans ground by hand at the Burnaby Lake General Store.
- Play Mahjong at the Way Sang Yuen Wat Kee herbalist shop.
- Watch the blacksmith heat and hammer metal objects in Wagner’s Blacksmith Shop.
- Learn from Indigenous Educators in the Indigenous Learning House.
- Step inside the 1893 Love Farmhouse to learn about life on a family farm.
- Climb aboard the 1912 interurban tram.
You can even take a ride on the restored 1912 C.W. Parker Carousel (fee needed).
We will also enjoy a picnic lunch (bring your own) in the meadow or grab a meal or snack at Mai’s Cafe.
