In celebration of National Indigenous History Month this June, join us for a special hands-on cultural workshop led by Sheila Maracle of the Mohawk Nation.

Participants will have the opportunity to explore Indigenous culture through traditional storytelling, cultural teachings, and hands-on craft-making. Sheila will facilitate a traditional corn husk craft activity, sharing stories and teachings that highlight the cultural significance of natural materials and their traditional uses within Indigenous communities.

During the workshop, participants will also create their own corn cob keychain while learning about the importance of corn in Indigenous cultures, its practical uses, and its connection to community, tradition, and daily life. Through art, storytelling, and cultural exchange, Sheila will offer insights into Mohawk traditions and the importance of preserving and celebrating Indigenous knowledge.

Whether you’re new to Indigenous arts or interested in deepening your understanding of Indigenous cultures, this workshop provides a welcoming opportunity to learn, create, and connect with Indigenous heritage during National Indigenous History Month.

Come learn, create, and celebrate the rich cultures, histories, and traditions of Indigenous Peoples through art, storytelling, and community.

For those interested to join for lunch after, we can walk over to Aberdeen Centre and do lunch at the food court.
